Kinetically driven self assembly of highly ordered nanoparticle monolayers.
When a drop of a colloidal solution of nanoparticles dries on a surface, it leaves behind coffee-stain-like rings of material with lace-like patterns or clumps of particles in the interior. These non-uniform mass distributions are manifestations of far-from-equilibrium effects, such as fluid flows and solvent fluctuations during late-stage drying. However, recently a strikingly different drying...
متن کاملPolystyrene nanoparticle-templated hollow titania nanosphere monolayers as ordered scaffolds
We report a novel multi-step method for the preparation of ordered mesoporous titania scaffolds and show an illustrative example of their application to solar cells. The method is based on (monolayer) colloidal nanosphere lithography that makes use of polystyrene nanoparticles organised at a water–air interface and subsequently transferred onto a solid substrate. A titania precursor solution (t...
متن کاملA highly ordered titania nanotube array as a supercapacitor electrode.
We report the synthesis of self-organized titania nanotubes and nanocrystalline titania powders employing an alternative and novel approach. Integrating these nanostructures in a binder-free working electrode improved the capacitance up to 911 μF cm(-2), which is around one to two orders of magnitude higher than the conventional electric double layer capacitors.
متن کاملHighly ordered silicon pillar arrays as platforms for planar chromatography.
Unlike HPLC, there has been sparse advancement in the stationary phases used for planar chromatography. Nevertheless, modernization of planar chromatography platforms can further highlight the technique's ability to separate multiple samples simultaneously, utilize orthogonal separation formats, image (detect) separations without rigorous temporal demands, and its overall simplicity. This paper...
متن کاملFormation of highly ordered self-assembled monolayers of alkynes on Au(111) substrate.
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), prepared by reaction of terminal n-alkynes (HC≡C(CH2)nCH3, n = 5, 7, 9, and 11) with Au(111) at 60 °C were characterized using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and contact angles of water. In contrast to previous spectroscopic studies of this type of SAMs, these com...
